New Zoom recorder announced.

151699-untitled-2_original

Hardware maker Zoom has announced the introduction of the latest addition to its line of portable recorders, the H1 Handy Recorder, which it has dubbed its “smallest recorder ever.”

Weighing in at only 2 ounces, the H1 sports many of the features that set Zoom’s products apart, such as the X/Y configuration of its microphones, which ensures the even recording of sounds with minimum cross-interference, long battery life and support for a wide variety of recording formats that can deliver up to 50 hours of recording time with CD-like quality.

Like many of its predecessors, the H1 is priced to sell: $99 will get you the base package, which includes an AA battery and a 2GB microSHDC memory card. (The device can accommodate up to 32GB.) The recorder features a USB port, through which it can be connected to a computer for power or for use as an external microphone.

In addition to the smaller form factor, the Handy Recorder comes with a brand new user interface that foregoes the traditional menu-based approach in favour of a series of on-board buttons that can be accessed with the thumb.

The base H1 model will be available on July 30. An optional accessory package, which includes a USB AC adapter complete with cable, an adjustable tripod stand, padded case, clip adapter and afro windscreen will also be available for an additional $25 at the device’s launch.

It’s Because Of Her

Screen shot 2010-06-02 at 7.52.33 AM

It’s because of her I can dream big.

I can fail.

I’ve traveled the world.

I can take crazy risks.

It’s because of her I succeed.

I get back up.

I’m stronger.

It’s because of her I keep going and never give up.

I don’t have to grow up.

I know what it means to love.

I’m who I am today.

It’s because of her things are worth it.

I understand better.

I see Christ clearer.

I’m not the same.

It’s because of her nine years ago today, my life changed forever. I love you.

Changing The Game

As this season’s T.V. Shows are airing their finale’s, HOUSE stands out from them all, why?

Screen shot 2010-05-19 at 4.10.55 PM

The last episode of the season (aired 5.17.10) was shot solely on a Canon EOS 5D Mark II. That particular camera has nothing of major significance to it, except it was built to take still images. Canon has changed the DSLR market. Now commonly referred to as HDSLR’s, by the video crowd, Canon has three cameras that are talked about the most that shoot video better than some network cameras. The EOS 5D Mark II, the 7D and the T2i.  I have the T2i and am hoping to get some interesting stuff at Whiteboard this Friday!

Anyway, if you missed the episode, they air 8 days later @ fox.com (8 days?!?!?! Suits are never going to get it!!) I don’t follow the show personally but I watched that episode and clearly, you can’t tell the difference.

Thoughts…  How do you think this will help ministry??  I like the idea of getting in at under $1000 for such a filmic look.  You??

Strolling Through History

Kim and I spent Saturday in historic Old Towne Portsmouth. We had lunch at the amazing Brutti’s Restaurant. We ate outside since it was so gorgeous.  After lunch we walked the streets of this waterfront enjoying the breathtaking historic homes.  It was an incredible  day.  What brought us here?? Media, Of Course!!

Screen shot 2010-05-15 at 4.34.08 PM

We came to purchase tickets for Ironman 2 at the historic Commodore Theatre.  It’s an amazing venue.  Originally opened in 1945 the art deco style theatre has remained true to its original appearance .  It was reopened in 1987 and restored to it’s former glory.  Stop here.  I am a serious movie venue snob.  It must have a wall to wall screen and the sound must be the best.  Okay, moving on.  I say that because it is only one of two places locally I will watch a film outside of our home theater.

The details.

The screen is 41′ wide by 21′ high and the sound system contains 31 speakers total of which 22 are surround sound. The Commodore sound system was THX certified by the team at George Lucas’ THX group from Cali.

So, you see why all the fuss and the blog post.  Needless to say, it was a great day, turned into an amazing night!

Change is Good!

So I have been sporadic at best with blogging lately. Not easy for me to chase church tech and media solely like I used to. That’s okay, change is good.

A lot is happening personally. We are adopting a biracial child and that is certainly a big focus. So, this blog is going to morph… into… well.

A media junkie, addicted to all things Apple, who is an adopt(ing) father to be and works full-time as the creative media director for a church…

Whew! So that’s what I’m going to write about… I think it will be much more fun and certainly a broader range.

That is all!!

Updates From NAB Part 3

Editing on the Mac in Final Cut Pro, I have always used Compressor. It comes standard with FCP Suite and the improvements over the years have been great. That being said, Sorenson Squeeze 6 looks mighty appetizing.

Why TV’s Are Dead…

Screen shot 2010-04-15 at 1.50.07 PM

Original post written and published at DVICE.

The iPad has only been out for 12 days now, and yet during those 288 hours, iPad users have managed to watch some 650,000 TV episodes using ABC’s free app for the device. Mind you, a good number of those could be only partial viewings, but it all adds up to “several million” ad impressions, according to The Wall Street Journal. Translation: ABC is happy.

There’s definitely a benefit to hitting the scene early, as ABC has demonstrated. With some 500,000 iPads out in the wild now, ABC enjoyed 205,000 downloads of its free app. That’s over three episodes watched per person, bearing in mind that some watched none at all while others could have watched a dozen.

The takeaway here? There may come a time when you say goodbye to your living room as you know it. Jimmy and Suzy won’t want to hang out and watch whatever boring show mom and dad have on when they could just retreat to their rooms and put on something else. It could change the TV-watching landscape.

Also set to change: the power of advertising. The conventional television remains one of the easiest ways to get as many eyes as possible on what you’re selling. Hulu, founded by NBC (DVICE’s parent company) and a coalition of other content providers, got the ball rolling, but the increased presence of ABC and CBS on devices such as the iPad — with other television providers undoubtedly to follow — means that we could finally be seeing Internet streaming media coupled with a handheld device in a powerful package that cuts out the middle man between a network and its viewers, which would be cable companies.

As for ABC’s development on the iPad, The Wall Street Journal has an interesting tidbit about how it came about:

Twelve in-house ABC software engineers built the app in the five weeks after the Jan. 27 announcement of the iPad. Though Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs is Disney’s largest shareholder, the network didn’t receive a prototype to work with in designing the app. Instead, the engineers relied on a software “emulator” provided by Apple.

On a personal note, we cancelled cable last month… saving $103.00 per bill. Whether you’re using a laptop, netbook or iPad, days of consuming TV shows on actual TV’s is all but dead.

What about you…
How are you ingesting main steam media?
