Affordable On-Camera Lighting

There are two battery operated lights on my radar worth looking at… that you can afford.

The first is the LitePanels Micro ($279).

Picture 3

Litepanels is known in the movie and news industry for making big LED lights for big camcorders, but the company is now introducing a light for the regular Joe. The new Litepanels Micro contains dozens of white, color-corrected, LEDs and can fits on in the shoe of most cameras and small handicams.

A huge benefit is it uses AA batteries.

Picture 4

Litepanels Micro produces 1.5 hours* of continuous output from just four AA batteries (it’s three times more efficient than a conventional tungsten camera light). What’s more, it’s virtually heat free so it’s easy to handle. And the system can be run off of either standard or rechargeable batteries. Power can be supplied optionally through a convenient 5-12V input jack located on the back of the unit.  It also includes filters:  Tungsten conversion (warm white – 3200°K) ¼ Warming Diffusion

I’ve used this light… I love it… (it’s for sale if you’re interested!!)

Next, the ikan iLED 150 ($349)

The iLED 150 is a lightweight, versatile and affordable lighting accessory.  The
ikan iLED 150 features a ¼-20 threaded mount allowing you to use the supplied
shoe adaptor on most cameras or adapt it to mount to practically any type of
camera accessory bracket.  The included gels easily slip into the attached gel
frame allowing you to quickly change color temperatures and customize your
lighting as needed.

The iLED uses 144 LED lights to create a powerful, even and energy efficient
lighting solution.  The newest incarnation, the iLED 150, has brighter diodes with
more accurate color temperature.

The built-in dimmer knob is fast and convenient, while the included diffusion filters
or color gels with the built-in gel frame make adjustments a breeze.

The iLED 150 includes support for the popular “L” series battery packs.  It allows
you to use these common prosumer battery packs to power your light.

ikan makes good affordable products I would not hesitate buying from them.  I own an on camera HD monitor of theirs that saved me a ton of cash!!
